Medical Packaging Spray Actuators Designed Jointly By OEM and Injection Molding Manufacturers Achieves New Modernized Look

The Gebauer Company (www.gebauer.com), an international medical device manufacturer of topical skin refrigerants used for controlling pain associated with injections, venipuncture, starting IVs, minor surgical procedures, muscle spasms, sprains and strains, decided to redesign their spray actuators for Ethyl Chloride can products.
After some discussion about possible manufacturing options, Gebauer decided to select Venture Plastics, Inc. (VPI) (www.ventureplastics.com), an ISO-16949 certified custom thermoplastic injection molding company, to help them develop and manufacture their new spray actuators.
The Project: Modernize Product Line
Gebauer's goal for the new actuator was to create a modernized look and feel to their Ethyl Chloride can products, while maintaining the same functionality and ease -of -use that their customers have come to enjoy and expect from their Ethyl Chloride bottle products. As such, VPI was contracted to develop these new actuators using injection-molded components to replace their current plastic components.
VPI engineers worked closely with the Gebauer staff to propose and refine initial design concepts to find ways to improve the look. Below are graphics and photos from the design process for the Ethyl Chloride can product lines.

Results: Success For Both The OEM And Molder
After the design process was complete, prototype tools were built for design verification and product life cycle testing. Next, four-cavity production tools were built and qualified. Full production of the actuator began at VPI during the first quarter of 2011. The new product was introduced to the medical industry in second quarter of 2011 and has been positively received by Gebauer end-users.
Working together they were able to develop a new and extremely functional actuator. The project is now one both companies can add to their success stories.
