Kraiburg launches two new classes of materials at NPE2012

Orlando, FL - Kraiburg TPE, the global supplier of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs), launched two new classes of materials designed for the consumer electronics industry at NPE2012 booth (#61027).
The new olefin block copolymer (OBC) blends offer strong mechanicals, skin oil resistance, and enhanced bond strength to high-performance glass-filled nylon substrates, the company stated. These OBC blends are available in 60-80 Shore A hardness range, and offer resistance to sebum, olive oil, sunscreen lotion, and other oils.
In addition, the OBC compounds exhibit adequate flow properties, which result in improved extrusion capabilities, along with better colorability, according to Kraiburg.
Kraiburg TPE also introduced its new TPE polar alloys that are designed to provide improved haptics resulting in a silky, non-stick, smooth surface with chemical resistance and bond strength to engineered plastics such as ABS and PC. These blends are available at lower durometers starting at 50 Shore A.
This new compound class was designed for cable extrusion, practically for the consumer electronic market for headsets, where companies look for products with skin oil resistance and a smooth surface.
Though the products were just launched, Jeff Frankish, manager director at Kraiburg TPE, told PlasticsToday response for the new materials has been positive thus far.
"The development of these specialty TPE materials has been driven by OEMs who demand soft and elastic TPEs with increased media resistant and innovative surface finish," said Markus Beitzel, corporate direction of product development at Kraiburg TPE.
